504
Program description
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or “504”, is a nondiscrimination statute enacted by the United States Congress. The purpose of the act is to protect students with disabilities, and to assure that they have educational opportunities and benefits equal to those provided to non-disabled students.
A student under 504 is a student who has a record of having a physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits a major life activity such as learning, self-care, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, working, and performing manual tasks.

Dyslexia
Program Description
West Oso ISD offers a dyslexia program designed to provide an educational option for any students exhibiting characteristics of dyslexia or related disorder. This program is campus-based and addresses the needs of students in Kinder thru Grade12. The program offers intensive multi-sensory language arts instruction or small group instruction in order to help students with spelling, writing, and reading through multiple visual, kinesthetic, and auditory experiences.

Pregnancy, Education, and Parenting Program (PEP)
This program helps to develop a model for the management of teen pregnancy and parenthood to students in school districts. PEP is offered to any student who wants to participate in the program.
The mission of the Pregnancy, Education, and Parenting Program is to enable school age parents, through education, to become self-sufficient, responsible, job oriented citizens.
The Program’s goal is to reduce the number of students who drop out of school due to pregnancy and/or parenthood and to recover youth parents who are 21 years old or younger to the educational system.
The program includes:
• Individual counseling, peer counseling, and self-help programs.
• Career counseling and job-readiness training
• Child care for the student’s children on the campus or at a child care facility in close proximity to the campus.
• Transportation for children of students to and from the campus or child care facility
• Transportation for students, as appropriate, to and from the campus or child care facility.
• Instruction related to knowledge and skills in child development, parenting and home and family living.
• Assistance to students in the program in obtaining available services from government agencies or community service organizations, including prenatal and postnatal health and nutrition programs

Gifted and Talented.
The G/T program provides differentiated and challenging instruction to students who demonstrate an advanced ability in one or more of the following areas: language arts, math, science, and social studies.

State Compensatory Education (SCE)
The purpose of this program is to design and implement appropriate compensatory, intensive or accelerated instruction that enables students to be at grade level at the end of the school year.

Federal Programs
Title I, Part A (school wide)
This program provides supplemental resources from local education agencies to help schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families to provide high-quality education which will make possible to meet the state performance standards.

Title I, Part C
This program assists students who are migratory to keep up with their peers and graduate on schedule.

Title I, Part D
The part D supplements the operation of district programs that collaborate with locally operated correctional facilities in carrying out quality education programs that prepare youth for secondary school completion, further training and employment for students who are at-risk of dropping out.

Title II, Part A
This program provides financial assistance to implement one or more of the following:
• Recruiting, hiring, and retention of highly qualified personnel
• Providing professional development
• Improving professional development
• Improving quality of teacher and paraprofessional workforce
• Reducing class size

Title II, Part D
Enhancing education through technology improves student academic achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools.  It is designed to assist t every student in becoming technologically literate by the end of eight grade, and to encourage the effective integration of technology resources and systems with professional developmental and curriculum development o promote research based instruction methods that can be widely replicated.

Title III  (LEP Students: bilingual and ESL Students)
Program Description
The Bilingual/ESL Program assists students who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) develop mastery of basic English language skills through use of a primary language.
Elementary:(Pre-K - Grade 5th)
Instruction in reading, writing, and language to help LEP students keep pace with their classmates.
Secondary: (6th - 12th)
ESL strategies such as graphic organizers, visuals, manipulative, and appropriate materials are provided to make input comprehensible.
Entry criteria-
• Home language survey on enrollment (speak a language other than English at home)
• Score Limited English Proficient on IDEA Oral Language Proficiency Test (OLPT)
• Parental notification of approval of program

Title IV, Part A
This program supports comprehensive drug use prevention and violence prevention programs that: a) prevent violence in and around schools; b) prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; 3) involve parents and communities; and 4) coordinate with related federal, state and community efforts and resources to foster safe and drug-free schools and communities.

Title V (Innovative Programs)
This program provides support to programs to provide library services and instructional and media materials; It provides resources to meet the educational needs of all students, including at-risk youth; It develops and implements educational programs to improve school, student and teacher performance, including professional development activities and class size reduction programs.
