July/August 2003-2004 Editors Dr. M.J. Garza & Dora Sifuentes

Welcome Back!!! August 18, 2003—First Day of School
It is very gratifying to end a school year that has brought a great deal of success to West Oso ISD and begin another. We have many accomplishments to celebrate. We have successfully navigated the transition from the TAAS test to TAKS, 98% of our third grade students passed the TAKS reading test, and we sent the class of 2003 into the world as well-educated young adults.

Many of our daily operations are occurring in a time of rapid change with the demand to cope with new circumstances in our district. Changes such as increasing enrollment, newly mandated education standards demand that we carefully plan while maintaining our focus on educating children.  We have been victorious in meeting the challenge of constant change head-on and we will be well prepared to face the changes ahead.

The West Oso ISD community  plays an important role in helping us prepare for the new state standards while managing school finance according to their desires.  We compliment and commend the parents and business leaders who are actively involved in our West Oso students’ education.

It is our true wish to have West Oso ISD reflect your educational choices for your students.
       —Mr. Lupe Casas
       WOISD Board President

 District’s website Continues to Grow
The WOISD website is a good source of information for parents, students, and community members. Our website address is www.westosoisd.esc2.net.  The site features current news, schools, departments, Board of Trustees, policy, calendars.

Bus Information
The West Oso ISD provides bus transportation as a courtesy service for eligible students residing in the district. The State of Texas prescribes the conditions governing school bus operations, and states that eligible students must reside two or more miles from their assigned school.  Buses are scheduled to transport students residing on a particular bus route, and ineligible students (any students not living on that route) will not be transported.

Bus route information is available at your child’s campus, West Oso ISD’s website, or you may call the Transportation Department at  361/855-3321.

Bus drivers are needed - we will train!
