Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed January as School Board Recognition
Month, and WOISD is joining with other school districts across the state to
gratefully acknowledge the commitment of our Board Members to our
community and schools. The job of school board members is to establish goals for the education programs and design a structure to achieve that goals. Members need to ensure that schools are accountable to the community, and they are advocates for continuous improvement in student learning. The accomplishment of these tasks entails endless string of meetings and school functions to attend, reams of reports and agendas, proposals, information to read and study, and difficult decisions to make. School board members come from different walks of life. They can be farmers, secretaries, doctors, architects, professors. They work collectively through a common goal - helping students to archive. School board members face demanding challenges, and few people fully understand the scope and implications of school members' responsibilities. We, as members of the West Oso District, show appreciation and recognition for our school members because they have a crucial role in the education of our children.
