INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS JUST FOR PARENTS

March is the beginning of special instructional programs for parents.  The programs will vary in length and subject matter, but all are aimed at helping parents better support their children’s education. Examples of courses offered:   computer courses,  how to help your child succeed in school, nutrition courses, make and take courses and many others.  Every parent will receive a listing of the courses that will be offered the first week in March.  All courses are free.  Make plans to attend one, two or all.  .

SCHOLARSHIP  INFORMATION

Thousands of scholarships are available, many of them specifically target coastal bend students.  School counselors have information on these  regional and national scholarships.

Scholarships are monetary awards that cover part or all of a student’s college expenses.  Scholarships do not have to be repaid and range in value from a few hundred dollars up to $50,000 or more.

Scholarship directories are available in school counselor’s offices, libraries, or on the INTERNET which list more than a half-million scholarships available from sources throughout the world.

Other sources for scholarship information recommended by their district’s Counseling Services Department are:

Emergency Preparedness

The federal government has raised the alert status of United States law enforcement agencies to Level Orange, the second highest alert level designated by the Department of Homeland Security. The move was made in response to warnings from United States intelligence agencies.  No specific details were provided.

From reports we have received, there is no reason to believe that any schools in our district have been targeted in any way. In fact, there have been no specified threats to schools reported anywhere in America.

WOISD is in constant contact with local law enforcement agencies and receives updates from the Federal Bureau of Investigations. We will take any recommended action deemed appropriate in the face of any specified threats. In the meantime, it is our intent to follow the President’s lead and continue with our daily business of caring for and educating the children of our community.

TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOL WEEK
Students and educators across the State of Texas are taking time during March to invite their communities and families into the schools to see first hand how they are preparing for the future.
West Oso ISD has set aside three nights during March for each of the campus levels to invite parents, grandparents, siblings, and others to come share in a variety of activities to showcase the many educational opportunities offered at West Oso.
Texas Public Schools Week was established in 1950 to recognize contributions made by the state's free system of education.
