ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION AND DATA MANAGEMENT

AVAILABILITY OF ACCESS      Access to the District’s electronic communications system(s), including the Internet, shall be made available to students and employees exclusively for instructional and administrative purposes and in accordance with the adopted administrative regulations governing such access.

                                                          Access to the District’s electronic communications systems is a privilege, not a right.  All users shall be required to acknowledge receipt and understanding of all administrative regulations governing use of the system and shall agree in writing to comply with such regulations and guidelines.  Noncompliance with applicable regulations may result in suspension or termination of access privileges and other disciplinary action consistent with District policies. (See DO, FNC, FNCJ, FO, and the Student Code of Conduct)  Violations of law may result in criminal prosecution as well as disciplinary action by the District. 

ACCEPTABLE USE                   The Superintendent or designee shall develop and implement administrative regulations, guidelines and user agreements consistent with the purposes and mission of the District and consistent with applicable law and District policies regarding copyrights. (See EFE)  Commercial use of the District’s electronic communication system(s) shall be strictly prohibited. 

MONITORED USE                       Electronic mail transmissions and other use of the electronic communications system by students and employees shall not be considered confidential and may be monitored at any time by designated District staff to ensure appropriate use for educational or administrative purposes and compliance with established policies, regulations and guidelines. 

DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY     The District shall not be liable for users’ inappropriate use of the District’s electronic communication resources or violations of copyright restrictions, users’ mistakes or negligence, or costs incurred by users.  The District shall not be responsible for on-line service charges incurred by students , teachers or other users of the Districts’ electronic communication system(s) for services outside the scope of the educational program or without prior administrative approval. 

                                                         The District shall not be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and usability of any information found on the Internet. 

Prohibited activities shall include, but not be limited to the following: 

a)     sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures,

b)     creating, accessing or processing obscene or threatening language,

c)      creating, accessing or processing harassing, insulting, or discriminatory remarks,

d)     damaging or injecting viruses into computers, computer systems, or computer networks,

e)     violating copyright laws, including illegal installation of copyrighted software for use on District computers,

f)        using another’s password without authorized permission,

g)     trespassing, deleting, examining, copying or modifying files, data, or work belonging to others without their prior consent,

h)      intentionally wasting limited resources, including the use of “chain letters” and messages broadcasted to mailing lists or individuals,

i)        employing the network for commercial purposes or private business,

j)        revealing the personal address, Social Security number, account number(s), or phone number of yourself or any other person without permission from your teacher.
