STUDENT DRESS CODE Parents were surveyed again at West Oso Elementary Open House. Parents liked the dress code in general They wanted uniforms for all campuses. It helped them financially. Like to see black jeans and shirts added to uniform. Kennedy wanted to have shorts under skirts and no belts if pants have elastic waistband.
STAFFING NEEDS Dr. Helms informed us that funding is still pending on legislature as long as it is still in session. There may be cuts in the Pre-K program. There is a hold on any hiring for now. Technology cut backs, weighted student population, Math/Reading Initiative, consultants can be cut back. Everyone has that clause about be cut back because of funding
BUDGET PREPARATION 2003-2004 Mr. David Palacios spoke to us about the district reviewing all the aspects of the budget. Personnel is the bulk of all budgets. Unless we have a dramatic upswing in student attendance our budget will remain stable. We have some non-recurring expenditures. We have property and liability insurance that are high. We’ve addressed staffing needs in the past, but we are looking at staffing is not going to be effected greatly. We have asked principals and directors to reflect a 5 to 10 percent reduction as a proactive measure. Some funding for the TRS ActiveCare might get cut. Social Studies funding for K-2 will be cut off. Cisco will stay. Early retirement will not be offered for next year.
