CORRESPONDENCE COURSES |
The District permits high school students to take
correspondence courses—courses by mail—for credit toward high school graduation.
A maximum of two (2) credits may
be earned through correspondence courses.
[For further information, see
policy EEJC.]
COUNSELING
Academic Counseling
Students are encouraged to talk with a school
counselor, teachers, and principals in order to learn about the curriculum,
course offerings, graduation requirements, and differences between graduation
programs. All students in grades 7-12 and their parents will be notified
annually about the recommended courses for students preparing to attend
college. Students who are interested in attending a college, university, or
training school should work closely with their counselor to best prepare them
for further work. The counselor can also provide information about entrance
examinations required by many colleges and universities, as well as information
about financial aid and housing.
To plan for the future, including attendance at a college, university, or
training school or pursuing some other type of advanced education, students
should work closely with the counselor in order to take the high school courses
that best prepare them. The counselor can also provide information about
entrance exams and deadlines for application, as well as information about
automatic admission to state colleges and universities, financial aid, housing,
and scholarships.
Personal
Counseling
The school counselor is available to assist students with a wide range
of concerns, including such areas as social, family, emotional, academic, or
chemical dependency needs. The counselor may also make available information
about community resources to address personal concerns. Students who wish to
meet with the counselor should make an appointment in the guidance office.
Please note: The school will not conduct a
psychological examination, test, or treatment without first obtaining the
parent’s written consent, unless required by state or federal law for special
education purposes. [For more information, refer to policy FFE.
