West Oso ISD Board Notes …. For March 24, 2003

 

A quorum was established and the meeting was called to order by Board President Mrs. Alma Ramirez at approximately 6:30 p.m., the role was called and, the notice of meeting was read.

 

Mr. Andrew Boyd and Mary Ann Hernandez addressed the Board during Open Forum.

 

Dr. Helms recognized and presented certificates to Coach Floyd Campbell, Coach Arnold Flores, and members of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team for their successful season.  A plaque was presented to Coach Campbell for 500 Career Basketball Victories at WOHS which he earned on January 24, 2003.  Dr. Garza presented certificates to Mr. Terry Avery and the textbook committee for their dedicated service in the selection of textbooks for the 2003 – 2004 school year.  Mr. Ramon Saenz’ 2nd period algebra students; Page Morris and Moneisha Romas, presented a class project by power point which they have been working on.  Dr. Helms presented certificates of recognition for their presentation and class project.

 

The Consent Agenda was approved and contained the following items:

  1. Approval of Board Meeting Minutes of February 22, 24, and March 8, 2003
  2. Approval of the Monthly Investment Report for February  2003
  3. Approval of the General Fund Financial Report for February 2003
  4. Approval of bid for Property, Casualty, and General Liability Insurance Coverage and Budget Amendment
  5. Approval of National Library Week
  6. Approval of 2003 – 2004 School Calendar
  7. Approval of Modified Schedule ( TAKS Testing Days)
  8. Approval of ESEA Performance Goals, Indicators, and Performance
  9. Approval of Cooperative Agreement between Nueces County Mental Health/Mental Retardation (MHMR)

 

The Board heard or received the following reports:

  1. Presentation on Current Tax Collections for February 2003
  2. Consideration of Modification to West Oso ISD Dress Code for 2003 – 2004 School Year
  3. Presentation of Report from STSARS Staff

 

In Action Items:

  1. Approved West Oso Independent School District Vision Statement (see reverse side)
  2. Approved West Oso Independent School District Goals Statement (see reverse side)
  3. Approved AP/College Textbook Waiver
  4. Approved Textbook Adoptions for 2003 – 2004 School Year
  5. No Action taken on Board Policy EIE (Local)
  6. Approved WOISD Board of Trustees Resolution Opposing Vouchers for Private Schools

 

The Board went into “closed session” to hear a personnel grievance at approximately 9:09 p.m.

The Board returned to “open session” at 1:21 a.m., March 25, 2003 and upheld the decision of the Superintendent.

 

The Board went into “closed session” to discuss personnel issues at approximately 1:23 a.m.

The Board returned to “open session” at 1:51 a.m. and approved resignations of employees and contract recommendations for instructional staff and administrators as presented.

 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:56 a.m., March 25, 2003.
