Seamless Summer Program
West Oso ISD is offering the Seamless Summer Program.  Take advantage of the Summer Feeding Program which  provides nutritious meals free to all children age 18 and younger at participating feeding sites.

    NEW ONLINE GRADE BOOK SERVICE

  WEST OSO HIGH SCHOOL NIGHT SCHOOL OFFERED
The West Oso ISD Night School Program serves students in grades 9-12. Courses will be held at West Oso High School. (More...)
 
  WEST OSO ISD WELCOMES NEW TEACHERS
As of Monday, West Oso ISD had hired 21 new teachers and 2 new administrators for the 2007-2008 school year. The new teacher breakdown is as follows: JFK Elementary School, 5; West Oso Elementary, 4; West Oso Jr. High, 8; and West Oso High School, 5.
New teacher orientation occurred August 9 and August 10th. A Hawaiian Theme Welcome Luncheon was hosted on Friday, August 10, 2007 for our new teachers. We welcome West Oso New Teachers to our West Oso family.

Halloween’s greatest hazards aren’t vampires and villains, but falls, costume mishaps and automobile collisions.  The Red Cross wants your family to have a safe Halloween so we’re providing these tips, the “Lucky 13”.

  RED RIBBON WEEK
 
On October 23 - 31, WOISD will be celebrating the Red Ribbon Week.  During this week communities and students across America are committing themselves to live drug-free lives.  We encourage our community to wear a Red Ribbon to affirm our commitment to drug prevention.

  "FAMILY MATTERS; HOW SCHOOLS CAN COPE WITH CRISIS IN CHILDREARING" LECTURE
HEB Educational Lecture is sponsoring a lecture titled "Family Matters: How Schools Can Cope with the Crisis in Childrearing" on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 7 - 9 pm.  Teachers who attend will receive a one-hour credit of staff development. (More details)

West Oso ISD will have early dismissal on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. JFK will release at 1:00 p.m., WOE at 1:15 p.m., WOJH and WOHS at 1:45 p.m. Classes will resume at their regular schedule on Thursday, January 3, 2007.

  ADULT LITERACY IS A MAJOR CONCERN OF COMMUNITIES AROUND THE STATE

  WEST OSO ISD SEEKS ERATE RFP
West Oso ISD is accepting bids for internal connections,  including Installation and upgrading of existing network and wireless network infrastructure at several campuses (contingent upon Erate funding).  A mandatory pre-bid meeting was held on January 7th at 10:00 a.m. in the Central Office building, 5050 Rockford Drive in Corpus Christi.  West Oso ISD is also accepting bids for basic maintenance of internal connections (contingent upon Erate funding).     JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH
January is School Board Recognition Month and West Oso Independent School District is joining other districts across the state to gratefully acknowledge local trustees’ unfailing commitment to our communities and schools. (more)
 
    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
A public hearing is scheduled for the discussion of the Academic Excellence Indicator System 2007 Report.  The hearing will be held January 22, 2008 at 6:30 P.M. in the West Oso ISD Board Room located at 5050 Rockford Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas.
 
   WOISD PRESENTED AT TCEA EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM
On February 8, West Oso ISD presented at the 2008 Annual TCEA (Texas Computer Educator's Association) Educational Technology Research Symposium.  The presentations were titled: “Discover How-to Design Great Websites with Google's Free Page Creator” and “Kubuntu - Make Linux your Friend.” (more)

    2007- 2008 BEARS BASKETBALL SCHEDULES
West Oso High School released its 2007- 2008
Basketball Schedules.  Lady Bears will play their first game on October 26.  The Mighty Bears will start on November 10 playing Port Aransas.  A big cheer goes out to all Basketball Teams.  We wish them a wonderful season.

   TAKS TESTING FOR THIS WEEK
TAKS testing will be administered this week, from Monday to Saturday March 3 - 8.  Students are encouraged to get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast, and come to school prepared to do their best. (Schedule)

    HATS OFF TO THE THE LADY BEARS BASKETBALL TEAM
For the fifth consecutive time, Lady Bears won the District 30-3A Championship undefeated. Lady Bears completed a perfect season by beating the Panthers 73-16. (more)
 
    DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time was extended one month, and this year Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 am on Sunday, March 9 and ends on Sunday November 2.  Do not forget to turn you clocks forward one hour

    2008 POWERLIFTING SCHEDULE
Powerlifting is a sport that is performed both competitively and as means of physical fitness.  It involves using one's hands to raise a bar with metal weights to increase one's muscular ability.  Bears in powerlifting training are under strict exercise programs and nutritional practices.  On January 26, Bears and Lady Bears will have their first meet at Sinton.  For more questions about Powerlifting contact Coach Mark Guess.     RESULTS FROM THE DISTRICT GOLF MEET
 West Oso scored a 330 to Sinton's 325 in the recent District Golf Meet held on April 7th at Sinton golf course.  West Oso placed second to Sinton. Top Medalist for West Oso was Abraham Rivas who shot an 80.
Other scores are the following: Anthony Martinez shot a 83, Albert Garcia 82, Jaime Rivas 85 and Andrew Wilburn had a 93. Best four scores are keep for the final tally.  On April 21 and 22, West Oso will play  Regionals at the Oso Golf Course
